The African Championship has been held since 1957. The next time it will take place in Cameroon in June and July 2019 with 24 teams. In 2021, the African Cup will be held in the Ivory Coast and 2023 in Guinea.

The defending champion is Cameroon through the 2017 success in Gabon.
